Henry Codman Potter papers, 1869-1905.

All but two items are letters written when Potter was secretary of the House of Bishops, before his consecration as bishop. They concern business of the House of Bishops; the importance of electing a Bishop of Cape Palmas (Liberia) and other clergy matters; a resolution of 1872 regarding the conference of Old Catholic Churches in Munich and appointing Bishop Whittingham to visit Europe and report on reform movements in the Old Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches; the schism of Bishop George D. Cummins, 1874-1876; and relations with the Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches. Also views on proposals to adopt a provincial system of church organization, Potter's belief that the General Convention is too big and too busy for careful legislation, 1874, and a newspaper account of Potter's visit to Baltimore, 1901.

20 items.
